Giving Back
Farming is a give and take kind of business built on a deep respect for all living things, and the faith that Mother Nature will provide a good crop. Just like our growers make a commitment to the land and the environment they serve, we make a commitment to the neighborhoods where we do business.
DREAM
“DREAM’s mission is to provide inner-city youth with opportunities to Play, Learn, and Grow. We use the power of teams to coach, teach, and inspire youth to recognize their potential and realize their dreams. In 1991, DREAM, then Harlem RBI, was founded when a group of volunteers transformed an abandoned, garbage-strewn lot into two baseball diamonds for the youth in East Harlem. Over time, we began to address the greater needs of the community, like low literacy and high school graduation rates, through summer and after-school enrichment. It soon became clear that out-of-school time was simply not enough. In order to have a lasting, long-term impact on kids and the community, we needed more time with our students, especially during the school day. So in 2008, we opened up DREAM Charter School to more deeply serve the community of East Harlem.”
BloomFresh is a huge fan of the work that DREAM does. The organization’s values and focus line up perfectly with who we are and we are a proud supporter of them. Along with our yearly monetary contributions to the organization, we also do weekly fruit and vegetable donations to their schools and after school programs in the Bronx. We also provide these healthy snacks to their summer programs and have the privilege of sponsoring one of their baseball teams…Go team BloomFresh, and congrats on a great season!
EASTERSEALS
“Easterseals New York is a non-profit community-based organization dedicated to improving the health and welfare of New York State children and adults with special needs. Easterseals was founded in 1919 as one of the first organizations to aid people with disabilities. For nearly a hundred years, Easterseals has provided programs that enable those with special needs to achieve equality, dignity, and independence in their own communities.”
BloomFresh supports Easterseals’ amazing work with weekly fruit and vegetable donations to their Bronx school as well as providing the fruits and vegetables for their annual Thanksgiving feast. Over the years we have also made monetary donations to support the organization and the school including sponsoring one of their sensory classrooms.
THE SONNY ARCHER LAW ENFORCEMENT FOUNDATION, INC.
“The Sonny Archer Law Enforcement Foundation, Inc. was founded in 2014 in memory of one of New York Police Department’s finest. Detective 1st Grade, Fermin S. Archer Jr. “Sonny” as he was fondly known to most, was born in Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York. At the age of 18, Sonny began his public service career as a School Safety Officer. In 1985, he continued to serve the public as a New York City Transit Police Officer. After 28 years of public service and over 100 arrests, Detective Sonny Archer succumbed to an Aortic Dissection, which doctors said was caused by the combination of a “Line of Duty” automobile accident and an unknown and untreated history of Hypertension. Our initiative is to increase public knowledge of hypertension, improve the quality of life for all and improve policing through better health by “caring for the hearts behind the shields”.
BloomFresh has been involved with the work the Sonny Archer Law Enforcement Foundation has done for several years. We have donated blood pressure machines and provided healthy fruits for post screenings that the Foundation has performed at countless precincts around the city. We are pleased to help our brothers in blue in catching the signs of hypertension early and help the foundation in honoring the memory of Sonny.
CITY HARVEST
“City Harvest helped start the food rescue movement in 1982 when a group of New Yorkers saw that New York City had an abundance of excess food even while a large number of its residents struggled to feed themselves and their families. We recognized the practical purpose that this surplus food could serve if directed to New Yorkers who needed it, filling the plates of the working mom who had trouble making ends meet at month’s end, the senior in the apartment upstairs living on a fixed income, or the family around the corner coping with a large and unexpected medical bill. Today, City Harvest is New York City’s largest food rescue organization, helping to feed the more than 1.2 million New Yorkers who are struggling to put meals on their tables.”
Feeding people is what we do at BloomFresh so when we get the opportunity to bring healthy fruits and vegetables to those in need we are happy to step up and do so. BloomFresh donates approximately $50,000 worth of fresh fruits and vegetables to City Harvest each year which they then distribute to New Yorkers in need of a healthy meal.
CARLOS BELTRAN FOUNDATION
“CBBAF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to realizing the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy’s educational programs and priorities through financial, volunteer, and community support. Our primary objective is raising funds for the CBBA so that is can continue to offer exemplary academic and sports education to the youth of Puerto Rico.”
BloomFresh has been a monetary supporter of the Carlos Beltran Foundation over the years and has seen the organizations results both in Puerto Rico and with player from the academy here in New York. Building the confidence and life skills with the youth who participate in the foundation is an amazing way to prepare them for the future and have an impact for the rest of their lives.
